Our original goal was to create the perfect mosquito repellent patch for these nasty pests without the use of harsh chemicals. Our studies showed us that thiamin (vitamin B1) is a natural deterrent to mosquitoes and other similar pests. We found that thiamin works to repel while in the bloodstream, which could then be recycled as the pores release sweat. The final step was determining how to deliver this vitamin safely into the bloodstream. We decided upon transdermal insect patches which are the same method of delivery for nicotine in smoking cessation products. Each transdermal patch would contain 75mg of thiamin, which is enough to last for 24 hours. Given that the vitamin is released in sweat, the product can potentially last up to 36 hours. This method of delivery guarantees that the entire body is fully protected from mosquitos. There is also no need for reapplication as this product is fully waterproof.
